A SUPER STAR
"He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do
justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" (Micah 6:8, NAS)
What must it be like to be a superstar on the PGA Tour? Only a very few know. Someone asked me the
other day how my present job compared to the days I played on the PGA Tour (1968-73). I responded, "I like what I do now, because now I get to play golf on the weekends."
The superstar starts with a gift of incredible talent and hones the talent daily. The perks of
superstardom do require years of work, hours of practice, and unparalleled commitment. But by risking failure to ultimately succeed, a superstar today gains access to the best the world has to offer in
the game of golf--flying in your own plane, equipment, clothes, and wealth at your disposal.
We can only imagine.
What does a superstar for Jesus look like? How do we gain access to the God of the universe daily?
What does He require of us to be able to do this? Hours of Bible study? Giving a little more that 10 percent? Serving on the building committee or going on a mission trip?
The answer is found in the Old Testament book of Micah, where we are told that the righteous people
of God are just, show mercy, and walk humbly before Him.
Just like Jesus did.
Jesus told us Himself in Matthew 11: "Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am
gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. 'For My yoke is easy, and My load is light.'" (Matthew 11:29-30)
Jesus, the REAL Super Star, said that He is gentle and humble? He had the world at His disposal, yet
He became a servant and humbly served others and died for us. And for doing so, He will be highly exalted. That's a Super Star worth emulating!
Even if we can't hit a high, soft 3-iron 235 yards, we can submit to the power of the Holy Spirit and
do justice, love mercy, and humbly submit to our Lord. And what do we gain by submitting?
How about these superstardom perks for the man who walks humbly with God: 1) An eternal wreath that
can never be taken from us. 2) He has prepared a place for us to live with Him forever--and forever is a long time. 3) He has promised us blessings which we cannot even imagine. 4) We are an heir to
riches beyond our imagination.
That's superstardom worth emulating and living for. That's a promise that will come to pass because
of the truthfulness of the One who made it.
We can only imagine.
