Kevin Streelman
won the first Kodak Challenge in 2010, gaining $1 million for the season-long achievement. When the off-season came, Streelman hit upon an idea that thrilled him as least as much as being able to share his big winnings with some friends and family. This time, he would do something for the kids.
At selected PGA Tour tournaments throughout the season, Streelman—and sometimes friends like Webb Simpson—are meeting junior
golfers before a 9-hole practice round. Then the juniors are following the players, and following up the round with a lunch and conversation, with the players sharing stories of their games,
their lives, and their faith. The project is being coordinated in conjunction with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and is called GameDay. On this page, we’ll be following
Kevin ourselves, with pictures and reports of each stop along the way.
JANUARY 19 AT THE BOB HOPE CHRYSLER CLASSIC Heavy rains meant a late cancellation at this venue.
FEBRUARY 2 AT THE NORTHERN TRUST OPEN IN LOS ANGELES
The group following Kevin and his friend Webb Simpson when they teed off for their practice round
included about 35 young golfers and their parents. After completing their play on the first hole, the guys came over and introduced themselves to the gallery,
meeting everyone before teeing off at the second.
On the second green, Ben Crane joined the group as well. The players announced that they would bring one
student inside the ropes on each hole. The first lucky boy, Max, helped Ben read a putt—which he made—on the next green. Way to go, Max!
After the round, the players spoke with the gallery for a while, sharing insights
on golf, priorities in life, and faith. FCA’s Ben Bost, who is coordinating the GameDay events said, “Above all, the players were super jacked about it.”
Sounds good for more GameDays ahead!
