TOUR STOPS

My dad started me in golf when I was nine, along with my two brothers. We were a really close family, so it was great to do something I loved and be with my family at the same time.

On course, the biggest challenge for me is staying positive. I can get down on myself. I need to trust that Christ has a bigger plan for me. Off the course, I am challenged by having to schedule the day, getting everything done that needs to be done. There aren’t enough hours in a day sometimes!

In the past I always thought when something went bad in my life, it was Christ’s fault, like He was out to get me. But Cris Stevens, our Fellowship leader, has helped me to see the bigger picture. I now realize that everything happens for a reason, which is really cool.

My favorite verse is Matthew chapter 19, verse 26—“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” This has been a great verse for me as an athlete in competition. I was young when I qualified for the Tour. I had been homeschooled and did not play on a college team before joining the Tour. I found myself playing with many of the superstars I had looked up to as a junior golfer. So competing on Tour was not just believing in my own abilities, but really believing and trusting in God’s plan for me and believing that my hopes and dreams were possible with Him.

I have a funny story about that verse. It was during the Ginn OPEN last April. I had played well and was in the last group of the day playing with Laura Davies and Lorena Ochoa. I was six stokes off the lead and knew we would be playing in challenging wind and rain conditions. I knew the day was going to be challenging, just playing with Laura, who was an idol of mine since I was 12 years old, and Lorena, who is a good friend. Before I went to play, another Tour friend, Katherine Hull, gave me a card with the Matthew 19:26 verse. I put that verse in my yardage book and read it over and over throughout the day. I won that day with a one-shot lead over Lorena, making up the six-stroke deficit. It was an amazing day for me, just reflecting on “with God, all things are possible.”
