PROCESS FOR SELECTION

Each year, a certain number of board members are slated to be replaced as their three-year terms expire and they choose not to renew their commitment. Additionally, the board may choose to expand the board according to the by-laws of Links Players International. In replacing or adding board members, the following process is used:

  • The board accepts recommendations for new board members from all board members and the executive director and considers the recommendations according to the criteria above.
  • The board then invites the prospective members to attend a scheduled board meeting as an observer.
  • After the completion of the physical board meeting, the prospective members are interviewed by phone by the Chairman of the Board to assess the prospective members’ interest in joining the board.
  • During the following scheduled telephonic board meeting, the board submits names for vote.
  • When the board has voted to accept a nominee, that nominee is called by the Chairman of the Board and formally invited to join the board.

WHAT WE ASK OF OUR BOARD MEMBERS

Members of the Board of Directors of Links Players International understand the following expectations:

  • A spiritual interest in the activities and personnel of LPI, including a commitment to prayer for the ministry, its board, and its employees
  • Complete one three-year term as a member of the board
  • Pay for travel to and housing, meals, and golf at our annual physical board meetings (meetings are scheduled 1-2 years in advance)
  • Participate in telephonic board meetings as scheduled
  • Serve as board officer as chosen
  • Contribute to Links Players International in at least one of the following four capacities:

BOARD CONTRIBUTIONS

Each board member is asked to contribute to the advancement of LPI in one or more of the following four capacities:

1. Financial provision and/or development events or programs. In addition to paying their way to board events, some board members will make LPI one of their primary charitable beneficiaries. For some, this will involve a stated annual commitment, for others a planned gift arrangement, for others sizeable donations as needed by the ministry, or some combination thereof. These same board members or others may find that they are able to multiply the impact of their giving by sponsoring local or regional development activities (including dinners or golf retreats, such as the Pebble Beach event).

2. Regional Links Fellowship shepherding and training. To broaden the reach and deepen the growth of Links Fellowships around the country, we depend on the volunteer time of the local Links Fellowship leaders, as well as the oversight of assigned regional leaders. The role of these regional leaders is to visit designated Links Fellowships in a region periodically, encouraging them in their progress, training them through sharing activities that have worked with other groups, and informing them of the overall progress of LPI. Some of these regional leaders are drawn from our board members.

3. Media contributions and/or on-call advisory. Because a main focus of the LPI ministry is our media, our board includes members with expertise in this area. Some board members make direct contributions, then, to our media by writing Links Letter articles or Links devotions. These members also are available for advice or direction on time-bound issues relating to media.

4. Speaking and public presentation. As we provide outreach resources, including speakers, some of our board members make themselves available as speakers for Links Fellowship events. Normally, they receive remuneration from the local groups for their travel expenses, as well as honoraria for their presentation. Board members may choose to donate these honoraria to LPI. Additionally, some board members are available to speak on behalf of LPI at fund raising events.
